MURDAUGH MURDERS: A SOUTHERN SCANDAL TRUE STORY

"The Murdaughs were among South Carolina's most illustrious families, however, the death of teenaged Caroline Beach in a drunk hunting accident began the collapse of their history," reads the Netflix synopsis.

The major narrative starts here. Mallory Beach, 19, lost her life in 2019 after Paul Murdaugh, the boat's suspected driver, smashed the vessel into a bridge while intoxicated. Mallory was killed and several other drunk passengers were ejected from the vessel. Witnesses reported that despite being severely inebriated and unfit to operate the boat safely, Paul insisted on operating it.

The family of Mallory filed claims after her death, accusing Paul of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Paul rejected these allegations and entered a not-guilty plea.

TRUE STORY of Murdaugh Murders

Paul was from the wealthy and powerful Murdaugh family in the neighborhood, and many people thought that his father's connections in the court system would help him avoid punishment for these accusations. At this point, the family was under increasing strain and there were claims that they were attempting to cover up the murder of a young woman.

Paul and her mother Maggie, in a surprising turn of events, were brutally murdered in June 2021, just as the trial was to begin.

In another weird turn of events, Alex Murdaugh contacted 911 in September 2021, just weeks after her son and wife were killed, reporting that a stranger had shot him inside the skull after stopping to assist him to change his tire. This happened not long after he left the family firm due to several embezzlement allegations.

Afterward, Alex said that he had hired a hitman to kill him such that his only child, Buster, would get a $10 million life insurance benefit. After then, Alex was also detained on suspicion of conspiring to steal insurance.

The three-part series, according to Netflix, "will feature first-hand accounts by those on the yacht that particular night, many of whom have not discussed the collapse or double violent crime of Maggie and Paul till now, including Paul Murdaugh's longtime partner, Morgan Doughty; Miley Altman and Connor Cook, Mallory Beach's childhood friends; Mallory's bf, Anthony Cook; and, several other people."
